Brevard County Public Works - Traffic Operations

Traffic Operations provides for the study, design, implementation, construction and maintenance of traffic control devices. This includes signalization, pavement markings, and signs on all County-maintained roadways. Traffic Engineering/Operations has 25 employees.

Traffic Operations includes an administrative office at the Brevard County Government Center (321) 633-2077, (2725 Judge Fran Jamieson Way, Bldg. A, Viera, Florida) and a centrally located operations center at 2905 Pineda Causeway, Melbourne, FL 32940, (321) 455-1440.

Traffic Operations provides for the operation and maintenance of traffic control devices including signs, pavement markings, and traffic signals.

Traffic Operations also provides such services as fabrication of signs for use by other County agencies, and for sale to other governmental agencies. This would include those municipalities that do not have manufacturing capabilities.

Aside from its signing and striping programs, Traffic Operations is responsible for the maintenance of approximately 300 traffic signals and 86 school flasher systems on State, City and County maintained roadways. (This includes agreements with the cities of Cocoa, Cocoa Beach, Cape Canaveral, Indian Harbor Beach, Indialantic, Malabar, Melbourne, Melbourne Beach, Palm Bay, Rockledge, and Satellite Beach to maintain signals within their boundaries.)

The Traffic Engineering Office administrates programs including street lighting, speed humps, traffic accident data analysis and engineering studies. In addition, Traffic Engineering is included in the review process for all subdivisions, site plans and right-of-way use permits that are submitted to Brevard County.
