About Brevard County, Florida
Brevard County is located on the east coast of central Florida and has a population of approximately 600,000 residents. The county reaches 72 miles from north to south and is home to 16 municipalities as well as the Kennedy Space Center and Patrick Space Force Base.
Brevard County Government primarily serves the unincorporated areas of Brevard, for those residing outside of municipal boundaries. Services for unincorporated areas include building permits and plan reviews, code enforcement, local road and bridge maintenance, and utilities. In addition, we offer countywide services including 9-1-1 and emergency medical services, emergency management, mosquito control, library services and parks and recreation.
Board of County Commissioners
Brevard County is governed by members of the Brevard County Board of Commissioners, elected from the county’s five districts. The Commissioners are responsible for appointing a County Manager and this individual is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the 2,350 employees.
County Manager
The County Manager works at the direction of the Brevard County Board of Commissioners. The 24 county offices are divided into four groups. The Community Services group is made up of Housing and Human Services, Library Services, Parks and Recreation, Tourism Development, Transit Services , and the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension Service . The Development and Environmental group is comprised of Mosquito Control, Natural Resources Management, Planning and Development, Public Works, Solid Waste Management, Utility Services, and the Valkaria Airport. The Public Safety group includes Emergency Management, Fire Rescue, Medical Examiner’s Office and the Public Safety Office. The Support Services group includes the Budget Office, Central Services, Communications and Space Coast Government Television (SCGTV), Human Resources, and Information Technology.
