Take a Survey, Save a Life
Brevard County needs your help! Here’s the problem.
Opioid misuse continues to take too many lives, threaten the well-being of families and communities, and strain the county’s health care, rescue, law enforcement, and social services resources. We’re working day and night to address this complex public health issue.
We know fighting the epidemic takes all of us, and that’s why we need you to answer our short survey on the impact of opioid misuse on Brevard County.
By answering our 11 questions, you will help us to better understand residents’ perceptions regarding the opioid epidemic. We want to hear how you view this epidemic and how it’s affected people you know or have heard about. That information will assist our efforts to combat opioid misuse and build a healthier community for all of us.
What is the opioid epidemic?
The opioid epidemic, also known as the opioid crisis, refers to the ongoing overprescription and misuse of these substances. Misused substances include prescribed opioids like morphine, hydrocodone, and oxycodone, but also includes illicit drugs like heroin. The powerful opioid Fentanyl, which can be legally prescribed, is also being illegally manufactured and sold on the street, sometimes masquerading as prescription medications for conditions like ADHD.
What we're already doing about it
We're intercepting and arresting traffickers before illegal drug shipments can hit our streets. We're saving lives by training and equipping first responders and healthcare workers with Naloxone, a medication that reverses overdoses. We're helping individuals recover from Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) and supporting their efforts to move on to a healthier life. We're in the schools and on social media, educating students about the risks of drug misuse and promoting healthier choices and activities instead.
But there’s much more work to do, and that’s where you come in.
Why are you surveying the public and how do my answers matter?
When you respond to our survey, you help us to understand your level of concern about the ongoing epidemic, your awareness of how opioids are used and misused, and how you think this issue should be addressed. By voicing your opinions and any observations or experiences you care to share, you're guiding the decisions and actions that citizens like you want to see implemented. We're seeking your opinion first, and your input will shape future plans to address this ongoing public health issue!
Should I take the survey, even if I haven't been personally affected by opioids?
Yes! We're still interested in hearing your personal opinions regarding the impact of the opioid epidemic on life in our county. Even if you haven't been affected firsthand by opioids, you may know of someone who has been. Regardless, as a concerned resident of our county, we’d love to hear from you.
Can I share this survey with people I know?
Absolutely! We encourage you to tell others about this survey and share the link so that we can also get their input. Tell your friends, family, coworkers, and other Brevard residents you know. As long as they live within county lines, they're encouraged to participate, even if they don't have firsthand experience with opioids.
Your answers will help save lives and protect our communities. To complete our survey, visit this link by Friday, December 13! Thank you for doing your part to combat opioid misuse in Brevard County!
