Ocean Rescue Lifeguards
Brevard County Ocean Rescue, a division of Brevard County Fire Rescue, completed a study in May to address beach safety, future lifeguard operations and funding alternatives with following highlights:

- At the end of 2022, 15 seasonal lifeguards were extended on roaming patrols from Cocoa Beach to
South Melbourne Beach to protect our residents and visitors. - Brevard County Ocean Rescue operates five fulltime lifeguard towers with 17 fulltime year-round lifeguards.
- Brevard County Ocean Rescue has 11 seasonal lifeguard towers and 55 current seasonal lifeguards.
- Six mobile units that respond to out-of-area calls within the 39.5 miles of accessible beachfront have been added.
- Recruitment efforts have been expanded by holding weekly tryouts, averaging three new seasonal lifeguard hires per event. These weekly tryouts and recruiting efforts will continue until all needed seasonal positions are filled.
The Brevard County Board of Commissioners discussed the study at the May 23 Brevard County Board of Commissioners Meeting .
