This group of 33 men and women signed memorandums of understanding declaring their intention to complete the Eastern Florida State College EMT and Fire programs this fall, paid for by Brevard County. They will be welcomed to the Brevard County Fire Rescue team upon completion of the programs.
During the ceremony, Fire Chief Patrick Voltaire recognized the group's diverse backgrounds and thanked their families for the sacrifice they will endure during the rigorous training program. This sponsorship class is comprised of veterans, college graduates, first generation college students, previous volunteer firefighters and lifeguards, parents, high school seniors and relatives of current and retired firefighters. This is the largest group through the program this far.
The BCFR sponsorship program started in 2021, and BCFR has hired 11 sponsorship recipients so far, with an additional 10 in the current hiring cycle. This new class will also have our first graduate from the Palm Bay Fire Academy, a unique training opportunity for high schoolers in partnership with Brevard Public Schools.
