On August 22, the Brevard County Board of Commissioners voted in favor of using Tourism Development Tax (TDT) revenue from the marketing fund for countywide beach lifeguard services.

This funding approval at the County Commissioners meeting is the latest development in the Board’s commitment to investing in beach safety.

In early August, two new lifeguard towers were installed on Brevard’s beaches. The first lifeguard tower was craned into place at the boardwalk in Indialantic, just behind the Wendy’s restaurant. The team then moved south and installed the second tower at Spessard Holland.

On May 23, the public safety group presented the Brevard County Board of Commissioners  with a study on the County’s beaches and opportunities to increase the safety of our residents and visitors. As a result, the commissioners approved the locations and staffing of these additional towers. The next day, these beaches had Brevard County Ocean Rescue lifeguards on duty.
