Employment Opportunities and Information

Brevard County Fire Rescue is an ALS transport agency that hires State of Florida certified Firefighter/EMTs and Firefighter/Paramedics. Applicants must possess a valid State of Florida driver's license, current CPR/ACLS certification, and a current CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test). Applicants will be required to pass a high-level background investigation.

All Firefighter/ EMTs must agree to become paramedic certified within Departmental time frames. Tuition will be provided by the Department.

Fire Prevention Inspector

Under general supervision, performs skilled protective service work promoting fire safety and conducting fire hazard inspections for a designated area of the County.

Requirements Summary (See Job Posting and Job Description for Full Details):

  • At least eighteen (18) years of age
  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • Valid State of Florida Inspector or Fire Safety Inspector I or higher certification, issued by the Florida BFST 
  • Valid Florida Driver's license
  • Possess, or obtain within twelve (12) months of employment, a valid State of Florida EMT certification 
  • Possess a current CPR certification
  • Not been found guilty or pled guilty or nolo contendere to a felony or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude within the last three (3) years
  • Be of good moral character, as determined by a criminal background investigation
  • Successfully pass a physical examination and vision test

Fire Fighter / EMT

Under routine supervision, performs experienced protective service work in controlling, extinguishing and preventing fires, and performing Basic Life Support at emergency scenes. The work involves responding to hazardous and/or life threatening situations as a member of a Fire Rescue company.

  • Valid CPR card
  • Valid State of Florida EMT Certification
  • Florida State Fire Fighter Certificate of Compliance from Florida BFST
  • Valid Florida Driver's license
  • Pass written fire skills test
  • Pass practical medical skills test
  • Perform and successfully complete the Brevard Physical Abilities Test (BPAT)
  • Non-user of tobacco products at least one (1) year preceding employment
  • Successfully complete a criminal, driver's license, and personal background investigation

Fire Medic 2

Ocean Lifeguard 1

Under the general supervision of an Ocean Lifeguard Lieutenant or Ocean Lifeguard Captain, performs entry-level protective service work guarding the safety of patrons at assigned ocean beaches and provides information pertaining to beach and ocean conditions.

Requirements Summary (See Job Posting and Job Description for Full Details):

  • No formal training or experience required
  • Successfully complete the Brevard County Ocean Lifeguard Performance Test
  • Successfully complete the Brevard County Ocean Lifeguard Training Academy
  • Must possess, or obtain by completion of academy, a valid CPR certification
  • Must possess, or obtain by completion of academy an Emergency Medical Responder certification
  • Successfully pass tryouts

Paramedic

Under routine supervision, performs experienced para-professional work performing Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) functions at emergency scenes. The work involves responding to hazardous and/or life threatening situations and providing medical supervision to Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).
