Brevard County Parks and Recreation

Located on Florida's Space Coast, the mission of the Brevard County Parks and Recreation Department is to enhance the quality of life by providing many types and levels of service that reflect the interest and values of citizens and visitors.

Of the many parks and facilities available throughout the county, those that the Department manages include 117 parks, 3 campgrounds, 3 nature centers, 3 education centers, 78 beach access sites, 10 school athletic sites, and more than 16,500 managed acres of Environmentally Endangered Land sanctuaries and conservation areas. The Parks and Recreation Department's website offers residents and visitors a place to discover the unique features and recreational opportunities available throughout our parks.

Recreational opportunities on Florida's beautiful Space Coast range from nature preserves to state-of-the-art athletic facilities and active community centers. Features that inspire both active and quiet pursuits include wildlife sanctuaries, beaches, rivers, lakes, boat ramps, nature centers, trails, cultural sites, an aquatic center, playgrounds, event/picnic pavilions, and a variety of sports facilities.

Additionally, for those who love the outdoors, Brevard County's parks provide venues for community and regional activities including public golf at two beautiful golf courses; camping at three unique campgrounds; horse trails; fishing and boating--with access to the waterways by boat ramps at many parks; beach and lake swimming and various venues for water sports including sailing, windsurfing, surfing, rowing, catamaran, canoe, and kayak.

Facilities for other active sports include softball, tennis, volleyball, horseshoes, shuffleboard, and there are many soccer and Little League ball fields. Picnic pavilions and playgrounds are available at various parks for more passive enjoyment.

Big Kid Adventures are field trips just for adults! "Kids" 18 and older are welcome. We drive, you play!

Please note: Food and drinks are NOT included in the price unless otherwise stated. We do make meal-time stops when appropriate. Pre-registration is required. Drivers cannot register anyone at the pick-up point.

Transportation leaves from the northernmost parking lot of Kiwanis Island Park (drive all the way to the back and park in front of the community center). The address is 951 Kiwanis Island Park Rd, Merritt Island FL. There is lighted parking and restrooms are available. Please arrive a few minutes early to ensure an on-time departure.


McKee Botanical Garden (Vero Beach)

Date: Saturday, February 11, 2023

Time: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. (return time is approximate)

Cost: $35 per person

We’ll be visiting McKee Botanical Garden in Vero Beach, FL during TWO special events - the Annual Motor Car Exhibition and the Garden of Glass! This year’s car exhibition is called "Car Collectors' Favorites". The Garden of Glass features larger-than-life glass flowers and other sculptures by master glass sculptor and blower Jason Gamrath. McKee has several walking paths of different lengths. Walking shoes are highly recommended. Food will be available for purchase on-site at the Garden Cafe.

Transportation: After gathering at the meeting point, we travel together by passenger van. Please arrive a few minutes early to ensure an on-time departure.

Meeting Point: Kiwanis Island Park, 951 Kiwanis Island Park Rd, Merritt Island, FL 32952. Drive all the way to the back; the van will be parked in front of the community center. There is lighted parking and restrooms are available.
