Brevard County Announces Facebook Page for Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands

BREVARD COUNTY, FL. -- Brevard County introduces Facebook page for the Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands.

As Brevard County prepares for the full reopening of the Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands, commonly referred to as the Viera Wetlands, this summer, the Brevard County Communications department is thrilled to announce the launch of the official Brevard County Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands - Viera Wetlands Facebook page. This platform will serve as a vital hub for the public to stay informed about the latest updates and developments regarding the wetlands.

The 200-acre wetlands, located at 3658 Charlie Corbeil Way in Viera, partially reopened to the public on March 4 after having been off limits since June 2023. For the past seven months, a $2.7 million project has been underway to remove vegetative muck and overgrown cattails from four ponds located on the site adjacent to the South-Central Regional Water Reclamation Facility in Viera. The main focus of the cleanup effort was to reduce nitrogen and phosphorous levels from the ponds that feed into Four Mile Canal, which ultimately leads into the St. Johns River. The wetlands project is funded through federal American Rescue Plan Act dollars. The project is anticipated to be completed by July if weather and other factors allow.

For those eager to explore the beauty of the wetlands firsthand, Brevard County also offers the Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands website and a dedicated hotline at 321-255-4488.
