MELBOURNE BEACH, FL. – The Scout Island pedestrian bridge and campground are temporarily closed to the public until further notice. The closure is due to the reconstruction of the bridge after irreparable damage caused by Hurricane Milton. The only access to Scout Island campground is via the bridge, and therefore the island campground will be closed for the duration of the bridge reconstruction project.
Surveying the area, the creation of preliminary drawings, and permitting at the federal, state, and local levels are expected to take six and a half months to complete. Demolition of the old bridge and construction of the new bridge are expected to take an additional four months.
Scout Island is situated to the west of Long Point Campground, located at 700 Long Point Rd., Melbourne Beach, FL 32951. Long Point Campground will remain unaffected by the closure.
Any questions regarding the project or construction process should be directed to (321) 633-2046.
