MELBOURNE, FL. -- A $1.18 million drainage improvement project on Evans Road in Melbourne, initially planned to begin in February, has been delayed until March. The project will prompt a temporary closure of the roadway at West Hibiscus Boulevard starting in mid-March, with an estimated reopening in August. This essential upgrade is designed to enhance drainage and roadway infrastructure in this high-traffic corridor, improving safety and resilience for the community.
The project will involve replacing the existing dual-pipe culvert crossing with a new dual 9' x 7' concrete box culvert, along with associated roadway and drainage improvements. Construction is anticipated to take approximately five months to complete.
To assist drivers during the closure, clearly marked detour signage will be in place. The detour routes are as follows:
• Southbound Traffic: Hibiscus Blvd. to Dairy Road to US 192
• Northbound Traffic: US 192 to Dairy Road to Hibiscus Blvd.
Brevard County is collaborating closely with the City of Melbourne and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to minimize impacts to residents, commuters, and businesses. The road is expected to reopen in August as contractors complete the remaining work.
The project will be managed by Gregori Construction, Inc. at a cost of $1.18 million, funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we complete this critical infrastructure project. For additional updates and information, please visit the Brevard County Evans Road Drainage Improvement website.
