Viera Wetlands Hours: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Daily

BREVARD COUNTY, FL. – Hoping to catch a sunset at the Viera Wetlands? Don’t lose track of the time.

Hours for the Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands, commonly referred to as the Viera Wetlands, run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Otherwise, the gate is locked and that could pose an issue for nature-loving sightseers and for those waiting for darkness to fall before making an exit. With the spring season officially upon us, the sun these days is setting around 7:30 p.m.

The 200-acre wetlands, located at 3658 Charlie Corbeil Way in Viera, partially reopened to the public on March 4 after having been off limits since June 2023. For the past seven months, a $2.7M project has been underway to remove vegetative muck and overgrown cattails from four ponds located on the site adjacent to the South-Central Regional Water Reclamation Facility in Viera. The main focus of the cleanup effort was to reduce nitrogen and phosphorous levels from the ponds that feed into Four Mile Canal, which ultimately leads into the St. Johns River. The wetlands project is funded through federal American Rescue Plan Act dollars. The project is anticipated to be completed by June if weather and other factors allow.

If you are interested in visiting the Wetlands, there’s more information available on the Viera Wetlands website or by calling the Wetlands hotline at 321-255-4488.
